Nottingham Energy Partnership saves clients over £5.8 million in 2024
By the end of 2024, demand for energy support soared with 6.1 million UK households living in fuel poverty, an increase from the 4.5 million reported in 2021 (National Energy Action).
Nottingham Energy Partnership actively worked to lower households’ energy bills, reduce CO2, and make homes more comfortable, saving clients in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire more than £5.8 million in energy-saving upgrades in 2024.*
The highlights include:
770 energy saving measures delivered to households in Nottinghamshire
Average household saving of £9,481
1669 tonnes of carbon saved
5.8 million in savings (install costs and annual bill savings*)
This was made up from the projects delivered by Nottingham Energy Partnership. Of those projects, the Government’s Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) saved clients £1.5 million worth of installations enabling those on the lowest incomes and worst rated energy performance certificates to have multiple measures installed for free.
For a second-year low income households off the gas grid were prioritised for energy upgrades including the installation of low-carbon heating. To varying degrees, the fabric first principles were upheld and homeowners had essential improvements, including home insulation, solar PV panels, air source heat pumps and upgraded heating systems, empowering residents to live more comfortably and sustainably at no cost. This initiative not only enhances living conditions but also underscores a powerful commitment to tackling fuel poverty and the energy crisis.
We assessed the eligibility of HUG clients for additional services, ensuring that the unique needs of vulnerable households were met.
When working with clients we helped, their eligibility for additional services to tackle the causes and symptoms of fuel poverty were also checked, to ensure their level of vulnerability was recorded, understood and addressed. Additional services that clients may be referred for include Severn Trent’s water bill discount (Big Difference scheme), National Grid’s support during power outages (Priority Services Register), hardship funding for home improvements, and more.
By offering comprehensive support, NEP are not only ensuring long term home improvements, but alleviating immediate hardships and empowering households to feel better supported day-to-day.
What does 2025 have in store for NEP?
This year, the demand for energy-saving support remains critical. OFGEM's January 1st price cap adjustment will raise the cost for a typical household’s energy bills by 1.2%, bringing annual bills to £1,738. With bills 50% higher than pre-crisis levels, the ongoing need for support is paramount. The crisis has gripped the UK since autumn 2021, with a build of almost four years of financial instability, we need to address the multiple issues that arise when households are unable to heat their home and are forced to go without essential items.
NEP are committed to providing peace of mind to clients, making homes less reliant on fossil fuels and more resilient to fluctuations in energy prices. In 2025, we plan to continue working with local authorities and service providers to offer free and subsidised home insulation, heating upgrades and renewable technologies. Find out more here.
The government’s ‘Warm Homes: Local Grant’ will begin delivery in 2025, which will supply energy upgrades and low carbon heating to homeowners who are on a low income and have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) between D and G. Upgrades will be tailored to individual homes, so will range from insulation to air source heat pumps. We will continue to provide our Customer Journey Support Service to Local Authorities across the D2N2 area. Part of the delivery includes our Retrofit Assessor and Coordinator services that we have enhanced to quicken the scheduling of the install, by five to six weeks, therefore benefiting the homeowner and the Local Authority.

For 2025 we will offer an enhanced tool kit of additional support measures – find out more here.
Additionally, our team will be running workshops to offer energy and wellbeing support to local groups, working closely with the community to offer face-to-face advice. You can expect to see us at events throughout the year, to keep in the loop follow our Facebook page here.
Off the back of a successful 2024, we are confident that 2025 will continue to open doors to make homes in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire fit for the future.
We are dedicated to making it as easy as possible for you to secure grants and subsidies, ensuring that more people can live comfortably and feel secure in their home. Together, we can take practical, positive steps towards tackling the climate crisis and cost of energy.
